1000 Friends Presented 2005 Better Community Awards

1000 Friends presented its Community Steward Award to the Northwood Renaissance Community Development Corporation in West Palm Beach on June 18, to the Miami River Commission on July 11, and to Apalachicola Riverkeepers on September 17. The Collier County Rural Lands Stewardship Program received the 2005 Better Community Award on June 14. Check below for more information!

APALACHICOLA RIVERKEEPER
On September 17, 1000 Friends of Florida presented Apalachicola Riverkeeper with its 2005 Community Steward Award. Apalachicola Riverkeeper was honored for its sustained grassroots advocacy in support of more effective planning in Franklin and Jackson counties and for the protection of the Apalachicola River and Bay. COLLIER COUNTY RURAL LANDS STEWARDSHIP PLAN
The Collier County Rural Lands Stewardship Plan received the 2005 Better Community Award from 1000 Friends of Florida. The award was presented to Collier County, eastern Collier property owners, and WilsonMiller, Inc. at the June 14 meeting of the Collier County Commission. The award recognized the plan's innovative incentives to privatize the protection of natural and agricultural lands. Click here for more information.


MIAMI RIVER COMMISSION
The Miami River Commission received a 2005 Community Steward Award from 1000 Friends of Florida. The Commission was honored for its exceptional leadership in developing and helping to implement the highly successful Miami River Corridor Urban Infill Plan. NORTHWOOD RENAISSANCE CDC
West Palm Beach's Northwood Renaissance Community Development Corporation in West Palm Beach received a 2005 Community Steward Award from 1000 Friends of Florida. Northwood Renaissance was recognized for its outstanding citizen planning efforts which have resulted in successful neighborhood revitalization and affordable housing.
