2011 Recipients -- 1000 Friends of Florida has presented Better Community Awards to the Town of Yankeetown, Gadsden County, and "Viridian" in the City of St. Petersburg, and the Community Steward Award to Martin County Commissioner Sarah Heard.
2010 Recipients -- In 2010,1000 Friends presented the Bill Sadowski Award to DCA Secretary Tom Pelham, the Better Community Award to the City of Coconut Creek and Villa Aurora, and the Community Steward Award to the Miami-Dade Area Plan Process, Peace River Manasota Regional Water Supply Authority, and Susan Woods and Lynn Reico of Marion County.
2009 Recipients -- In 2009, 1000 Friends presented three Community Steward Awards, to the Lee County Board of County Commissioners for its work to protect the Density Reduction/Groundwater Protection Area, the Smart Growth Coalition of North Central Florida for smart growth advocacy and springs protection in the Marion County area, and Chad Taylor for his community leadership regarding springs protection and visioning in Jackson County. 1000 Friends presented its Better Community Award to Kimco Properties for its SoDo redevelopment project in downtown Orlando.
2008
Recipients -- Over the course of 2008, 1000 Friends of Florida
presented Better Community Awards to Golfair Estates in Jacksonville,
Volusia Forever in Volusia County, the Genius Reserve Ecological Restoration
Project at Rollins College, The Villagers in Coral Gables, Casa San Juan
Bosco Farm Worker Community in DeSoto County, and the Coalition for Responsible
Growth in Alachua County.
