The Florida Planning Toolbox is a comprehensive one-stop, easily accessible smart growth resource for Florida planners, public officials, and citizens who are seeking to plan for the future livability and health of Florida's communities. Produced by the Florida Department of Community Affairs and the Center for Urban and Environmental Solution at Florida Atlantic University, and peer reviewed by a panel of experts, the Toolbox provides descriptions of planning tools designed to help Florida communities and their regions achieve their goals to:
- Plan more livable, walkable, and resilient communities for all ages
- Reinvest in towns and city centers
- Provide equitable economic opportunities for all citizens
- Conserve and enhance land, water, natural, and cultural resources
- Provide a range of housing and transportation choices that promote quality growth
- Plan infrastructure investments that support sustainable growth
- Enable broad-based citizen involvement in all aspects of planning, including monitoring and measuring results
The toolbox includes illustrative examples of Florida communities that have put many of the tools into practice. The newest addition to the Toolbox - the Climate Change Chapter - provides a broad range of tools that can be used by community leaders, planners, and citizens to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and help their communities adapt to the predicted impacts of a changing climate.
