| This report,
and the assessment it details, is only a first step toward conserving the things
that make the Apalachee region special our canopy roads, rivers, historic sites,
forests, wetlands, trails and rolling red hills. We
believe that a system of greenways and trails connecting parks and reserves, rivers
and lakes, historic sites and small towns, will provide a focus for a regional
conservation effort. But we can't do it alone. The people who call this
region home will have to be involved -deeply involved - in answering the difficult
questions facing Lis. Where
will we grow? How will we grow? Will we protect our canopy roads, our fields and
forests, our plantations and small farms? Will greenspaces and open places be
important parts of our cities? Will rivers and lakes be dean, providing places
to fish, swim and canoe? Will political boundaries get in the way, or can we work
together, taking our cues from nature, rather than trying to make it fit our human
needs? These questions affect
you, your hometown, your region. We hope you will get involved in answering them.
Call us, write us, help us spread the word. You can make a difference.
