FLINT RIVER WATCHERS

Our mission statement: To preserve, protect, and to police the quantity/quality of the Flint River Basin. We are a group of people who are extremely concerned as well as motivated in keeping our Flint clean. Although it is hard for one individual to make a difference, it is our goal to unite in the preservation of this spectacular river. If you have questions or would like more information feel free to email us at webmaster@flintriverwatchers.com.

The Nature Conservancy began working in the Apalachicola River basin in 1982 when it created the Apalachicola Bluffs and Ravines Preserve. Conservancy volunteers have planted more than 1 million longleaf pines at the preserve. The Conservancy has helped the state of Florida acquire nearly 125,000 acres of the bay’s watershed for conservation management. An agreement is being negotiated between Florida, Alabama and Georgia on managing the river’s water flow. The Conservancy has been asked to help identify critical influences on the health of the basin’s natural systems and is developing an action plan to address how to conserve terrestrial, aquatic and estuarine resources for the benefit of human and natural communities.
